This route trades the heavy trunk road traffic of the A44 for a succession of classic Welsh B-roads. You begin on the rolling lanes of the Golden Valley out to Hay-on-Wye before tackling the wide, empty bends of the B4520 over Mynydd Epynt. The absolute highlight is the northern leg of the B4518 past Clywedog Reservoir, where tight hairpins and dramatic elevation changes give way to sweeping descents toward the Dyfi valley.
